Back in the day Hell's Angels planned to invade Mick Jaggers' home in an assassination attempt but were thwarted by a storm at sea:
".... it was revealed that Mick Jagger might have met a similar fate, as years ago he was reportedly the target of a bizarre, ultimately unsuccessful assassination attempt by the Hell's Angels.
According to the BBC, the Hell's Angels were so angered by Mick's remarks following the Rolling Stones' disastrous 1969 Altamont Speedway concert (for which the gang's members served as rather ineffectual security guards), they hired a boat and attempted to invade Mick's Hamptons home by sea. Thankfully for Mick, Mother Nature intervened, a storm toppled the boat, and the would-be assassins couldn't get no satisfaction that fateful day."

Once Upon a Time When We Were Hobbits?
From Unexplained Mysteries:
"The row over the origins of "Hobbit" fossils found on the Indonesian island of Flores has taken a new twist. An Australian team claims the little people were not a new human species, but modern humans with a form of dwarfism caused by poor nutrition. In 2004, international researchers announced the discovery of the ancient remains in the Liang Bua Cave. There has been debate since then over whether the bones are from diseased humans or a new human "cousin". The latest theory, published in the scientific journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, claims the Hobbits were true humans, but did not grow to normal size because of environmental factors."

Here's a Surprise, Texas Caucus System Criticized by Voters as "Long and Confusing"
Yea, I know someone from Texas who's been in the White House too long and may not be confusing but seems awful confused about Democracy, to say the least.

Sri Lanka Under Investigation for Human Rights Abuses
From Voice of America News:
"In Sri Lanka, an international panel invited to monitor the investigation of human rights abuses has quit. Another human rights group has also attacked the government for its rights record, calling it one of the world's worst perpetrators of enforced disappearances. Anjana Pasricha reports on the growing criticism of the government's rights record since a new round of fighting erupted in the island, two years ago...
Anna Neistat who researched the Human Rights Watch report:
"In many cases, we have proof that, before people disappeared, before they went missing they were last seen in custody of army or navy officers, or they were arrested by the police…. and since then all traces of them have been lost," she said...
"The report says many of the victims are ethnic Tamils and were targeted because of their alleged links to the rebels. It says others who have disappeared include journalists and aid workers. It says many of the victims are feared dead.
"It has called for a United Nations mission to monitor the rights abuses."

The Wall
From the AP:
"RAFAH, Egypt (AP) — Egypt is building a 13-foot high concrete and rock wall interspersed with watch towers along its narrow boundary with the Gaza Strip to prevent Hamas militants from breaching the border, an official said Thursday."
Well, suppose it will cut down on the leg breaking.
But it's really not funny - in no wise trying to make light of it.

An Incredibally Clever Loophole in No Indoor Smoking Law
"MAPLEWOOD, Minn. - All the world's a stage at some of Minnesota's bars. A new state ban on smoking in restaurants and other nightspots contains an exception for performers in theatrical productions. So some bars are getting around the ban by printing up playbills, encouraging customers to come in costume, and pronouncing them "actors."

And bars full of people in costume are bound to be more interesting. Did you know that there is something biochemical that actually makes you want to smoke more when you drink? It's true.

Here's One for the Books - Massecaring Argentinian Lt. Heading Co. That Works With U.S. Defense Dept.
From Yahoo News:
"MIAMI - A former Argentine navy lieutenant wanted for his alleged role in a 1972 massacre of 16 leftist guerrillas is now heading a medical personnel supply company that has contracts with the U.S. Defense Department...
"...lawyer for Roberto Guillermo Bravo, 65, said Thursday his client denies the massacre charges and will fight extradition...
"Since last month, an Argentine federal judge has been seeking Bravo and two others on charges of torture, homicide, attempted homicide and illegal detentions in the so-called "Trelew Massacre.
"Nineteen guerrillas were allegedly machine-gunned in their cells at a military base days after being recaptured following a prison break. Three prisoners survived the attack and reported the crime.
"Argentina was marked in the 1970s by leftist guerrilla violence and counterattacks by military forces and death squads as a prelude to a 1976 military coup. Official records show nearly 13,000 people died or disappeared under the dictatorship. Human rights groups put the toll closer to 30,000."

8 Seminary Students Gunned Down in Jerusalem Seminary
From Yahoo News:
"JERUSALEM - A gunman entered the library of a rabbinical seminary and opened fire on a crowded nighttime study session Thursday, killing eight people and wounding nine before he was slain, police and rescue workers said. It was the first major militant attack in Jerusalem in more than four years...
"The day's violence, which also included a deadly ambush of an army patrol near Israel's border with Gaza, was likely to complicate attempts by Egypt to arrange a truce between Israel and Palestinian militants. The U.S. is backing the Egyptian effort...
and here's the thing - a very brave young man:
"One of the students, Yitzhak Dadon, said he shot the attacker twice in the head. "I laid on the roof of the study hall, cocked my gun and waited for him. He came out of the library spraying automatic fire," he said...
"Yehuda Meshi Zahav, head of the Zaka rescue service, entered the library after the attack. "The whole building looked like a slaughterhouse. The floor was covered in blood. The students were in class at the time of the attack," he said. "The floors are littered with holy books covered in blood."

Armenian Police Violently Stop Protests of Rigged Election
From Reuters:
"Several thousand opposition supporters had been protesting daily in Yerevan's Freedom Square since Prime Minister Serzh Sarksyan was elected to replace his ally Robert Kocharyan as president in a February 19 vote.
Riot police moved into the square early on Saturday after authorities warned they were losing patience with the protests led by Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Armenia's first president after independence from the Soviet Union who ran against Sarksyan.
"We were asleep," said one of the protesters who had been keeping overnight vigil on the square. "They came and they started to beat us up. They had truncheons," said the man, who showed Reuters his broken finger. He declined to give his name."

Attorney General Refuses to Pursue Contempt Citations of White House Aide
From Reuters:
"Saying no crime was committed, Mukasey rejected a request by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to refer the citations to a federal grand jury investigation of current White House chief of staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers."
The citations were for not cooperating in a probe of the firing of U.S. attorneys:
"The Democratic-led House of Representatives voted 223-32 earlier this month, with most of President George W. Bush's fellow Republicans abstaining, to pursue legal action against Bolten and Miers for failing to provide documents and appear at a hearing.
"In doing so, the House also authorized its Judiciary Committee to go to court to file suit to enforce the subpoenas. White House spokesman Tony Fratto said if the Democrats choose to move forward, a federal judge would likely turn down the case....Critics charged the federal prosecutors were fired for political reasons, allegations denied by the White House.
"Mukasey said...that Bush, citing executive privilege, had directed his two aides not to comply, and the Justice Department had determined that Bush's order was legal and therefore it would not take any further action."
Since when does this sort of thing go on in a Democracy? And all this rhetoric about spreading Democracy etc. Sickening.

Inadequate Compensation Offerred for Korean Oil Spill
From Yahoo news:
"The residents are demanding unlimited accountability and unlimited compensation from Samsung...
"Three people in the worst-hit district of Taean, about 110 kilometres (69 miles) southwest of Seoul, killed themselves following delays by local officials in distributing emergency government aid. One drank poison and set himself on fire at a protest rally.
"Thousands staged an angry protest in Seoul in January, displaying oil-coated oysters, fish, anchovies and seaweed, while a few protesters pelted the headquarters of Samsung with oily fish. Others used hammers to smash Samsung-made washing machines, TV sets and refrigerators they had brought to the rally.
"The accident happened when a Samsung Heavy Industries barge carrying a construction crane snapped its cables to two tugs in rough seas and rammed the anchored 147,000-ton supertanker Hebei Spirit. The Hong Kong-registered tanker was holed in three places, spilling 10,900 tons of crude.
